PAYME FROM HSBC: PAYMENTS ECO-SYSTEM

As Design Lead, I was responsible for hiring, mentoring and managing a multi-faceted team of 8 product designers (from a once-fully rotating consultant team).

I managed and coached all levels of creatives, from junior to mid-level to managers; while managing upwards with business stakeholders, product managers, and other cross-departmental folks alike.

Below is a brief selection of features I’ve contributed to.

PAYME: CONSUMER EXPERIENCE (APP)

PayMe from HSBC is a peer-to-peer (P2P) mobile app experience that allows customers to pay friends and family digitally and with with ease.

Customers can also use PayMe at their favorite restaurants, retailers, local businesses and more.

We completely redesigned the original MVP of the PayMe app for scalability, optimizing the user experience and to fit the ever-evolving product ecosystem. View the full case study.

From the original MVP design…

  • Too much bright red (can signify negative in money markets).

  • Overwhelmed by clutter and information overload.

To a new modern and intuitive experience

  • Less red, more white space.

  • Singular focus on one task at a time, to reduce overwhelm and friction.

Split Bill

  • We crafted a feature that allowed friends to add and select friends to evenly split the cost of a bill.

  • No more awkward asking people to pay you back!

Consumer-Presented QR Code - CPQR Code

  • Customers can pay in-store in HK mega-chains, like Circle K, IKEA, 7-11 and more.

  • Users flash their PayMe QR code to the cashier at the payment counter.

  • Merchants then easily scan the customer's QR code at the POS.

QuickPay

  • We discovered in interviews that HKers want to pay their top friends in just one tap – and straight from the home screen.

  • So rather than the current 3-step Pay Journey, we lifted the “Top Friends” directly onto the home screen and rebranded it as “QuickPay”.

  • A one-tap access to your most frequented lunch buddies.

Discover Timeline

  • A centralized hub to explore the entire PayMe experience.

  • Users can:

    • Easily pay their friends in a single tap.

    • Learn about new features and tips & tricks.

    • Shop limited-time offers and exclusive promos.

PayLinks

  • We introduced yet another way to collect money

  • Users can now create and share a custom PayLink

  • The link instantly initiates the payment journey in-app for the payer — without having to share one's PayCode or mobile number.

PAYME FOR BUSINESS: MERCHANT EXPERIENCE (APP & DESKTOP DASHBOARD)

PayMe for Business is the merchant solution for Hong Kong businesses to collect payments from customers digitally on various platforms and products – mobile app, point-of-sale (POS), API integration, and a merchant portal for a business’s back office.

PayMe for Business Mobile App

The PayMe for Business mobile app was the first product in the PayMe universe to launch specifically for businesses.

It enabled small Hong Kong business owners to collect money in-store and online - through the use of dynamic one-time QR codes, physical QR codes, and professional custom PayLinks.

Terminal Management

  • Merchants can manage multiple POS terminals

  • To collect payments across multiple devices, wallets, and stores – whether in-store, online or on-the-go.

PayCodes

  • Business PayCodes can be used anywhere customers can scan them.

  • Physical QR codes at in-store locations and pop-up events online

  • Digital QR codes for social media, sharing virtually and more.

PayMe at Point-of-Sale (POS)

  • A scalable platform that operates as a standalone solution or easily integrates into an existing infrastructure.

  • Allows businesses to accept PayMe alongside other existing payment collection options, such as credit cards or FPS (Faster Payment System).

  • Customers can choose to scan the business PayCode or show the customer-presented QR code to immediately checkout in-store.

API Integration

  • We enabled businesses to collect payments with PayMe by seamlessly and securely integrating through their website and/or mobile app experiences.

  • Customers can scan the PayCode with the PayMe app, or select PayMe as their preferred checkout option on their mobile device.

Merchant Portal

  • We empowered companies to manage their business through a responsive Merchant Portal web experience.

  • The dashboard allows business owners to oversee payments and refunds, manage employee/user access on the web, and view expenses and earnings through real-time reporting.
